You can find a lot of healthy green protein smoothie recipes online. If you use Flipboard there are entire boards dedicated to the glorious smoothie.
But I make the best smoothies. I do, really! 🙂
I’ll Let You In On a Little Secret
You don’t need a $500 blender to make awesome smoothies (although I’m totally buying a VitaMix when I can afford it).
You can make do with an inexpensive blender so long as you use the right one. I have an Oster 12-speed blender and the reason I recommend this one is because of its construction. The blade base is made from metal, which sits on the blender motor via an all-metal drive system. Other blenders use a plastic-resin, or a silicon system that breaks down quickly, especially if you blend ice or frozen fruit.
I know from personal experience — I used to have a Braun blender and I replaced the blade three times in a two-year period, because the “teeth” on the blade broke from heavy blending. When the teeth broke a third time I realized I could have bought a new blender with the money I spent on blade replacements.
That’s When I Discovered the Oster Blender
For about $50 you’ll get a blender that will last you many years (my blades are still sharp after five years of use), and will do as good a job as many of the high-end blenders that cost over $200.
A Final Thought on The VitaMix Blender
If you have the money go ahead and get a VitaMix. It’s the most versatile blender on the market with one of the most powerful motors. The benefits of this type of blender is that you can break down larger quantities of food, and foods that you can not effectively blend with a $50 blender.
With the VitaMix you can make nut butters, you can grind wheat berries to make flour, blend soups, and much more. You would also be able to blend harder vegetables in your smoothies, like carrots and beets.
It’s not difficult to make a healthy, tasty and perfect green protein smoothie every time, especially if you follow my basic structure.
This is My “Formula” for Creating Perfect Protein Smoothies
Protein Smoothie Basic Ingredients TableThese are the main ingredient variations I will almost always use to guarantee a healthy, tasty smoothie. I didn't put protein in the chart since it's a staple ingredient for me, and I don't have any variations. Don't be afraid to try an ingredient not listed here and experiment with flavour combinations.
