The Habit-Based Approach to Accomplish Your Health & Fitness Goals

This is the last post in the series, The Secret to Livelong Health and Fitness! Let’s review the common “excuses” for not exercising regularly, or eating healthy, nourishing food:

  1. Not having enough time;
  2. The challenge of priorities over values;
  3. Too much information (analysis paralysis: don’t know what to do);
  4. Who do you listen to and trust, and;
  5. How do you get to where you want to be (what’s the plan).

One of the most important steps in this process is knowing why you want to change. Why you want to put in time and effort. Why you want to make changes to improve your health.

Next I talked about the “What” and the list you created of various action steps. For example, what you would need to do first, and what are your most important actions and habits to improve your health.

Then came the “How”. How are you going to get there? You might choose to work with a health and fitness coach. Someone who can help you exercise your mind and your body.

A good coach won’t stop there. He or she will help you raise your consciousness for what’s possible. You create the “What-if” 12-month goal, and your coach will help you stay on track.

How? Practice Healthy Habits

In all the above lives your “How”. This is where I come in to help you in two ways. We start with a habit-based structured 12-month system. Every two weeks you practice a healthy habit. We reduce overwhelm by learning a small amount of information at the time.

But we don’t stop there. Learning without practice is a waste of time. After two weeks you practice a new habit. Each former habit layers upon the earlier, supporting the new one. Over time, without stress, without overwhelm, you begin to see improvements to your health, fitness, and well-being.

How you accelerate this process is with a supportive coach.

What works for you and your lifestyle? How much time you have to achieve your goal? How much time do you want to invest in improving your health and fitness? How important is it to you?

Maybe you don’t believe you can do it, but with regular coaching sessions, you will always be on top of your game.

All you need to say is, “Darren, can we talk?” That’s what I’m here for – to listen and to help you understand with clarity what’s blocking you. Together we can work on a strategy so you can move through those blocks and accomplish your health and fitness goals.

This is a journey like any long-term endeavour in life.
