Top Nutrition Tip #7 – Vitamins and Minerals

I recommend to all of my clients and everyone I know, to take a high quality nutritional product, one that is pharmaceutical grade, follows both GMP and USP guidelines, and is guaranteed for potency and solubility.

If you choose to buy discount vitamins you will get a ‘discount’ product. If you are buying for price as opposed to quality and value, take one of your vitamin tablets and put it in a glass of water. Does it dissolve? If it does not dissolve or takes longer than 20-minutes to start dissolving, this indicates that most of the vitamin will not dissolve in your intestinal tract and you will receive no benefit. In short, it will go in one end and go right out the other.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, June 19 2002, Vol. 287, No. 23) all adults should supplement with a multi vitamin every day.

If you’re taking a supplement based solely on the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) you’re again wasting your money. The RDA’s aim was to prevent scurvy and rickets when originally introduced in the 1940s. It is only the minimum criteria necessary to prevent acute nutritional deficiencies. In today’s world of high stress, fast food, reduced nutritional quality of food, air and water pollution, we require a higher dose and a balanced, synergistic blend of minerals and anti-oxidants to optimize our cellular nutrition and defend against chronic degenerative disease, e.g. heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, etc.

How to choose an effective vitamin/mineral supplement

Choose a supplement that offers you more energy, reduced recovery time from training, optimal protection from free radicals and better sleep.

Choose a supplement that is science-based and produced and manufactured by a science-based company. The supplement should have a potency guarantee and be laboratory tested to meet USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) specifications for quality, potency and disintegration, where applicable.

Do your research.
